In the downtown area, you will be pleased to find local favorite restaurants, the historic Hohenwald depot, Lewis County Museum of Natural History, Strand Theatre and Art Gallery, coffee shops, fabric store, children's consignments, and even The Elephant Sanctuary in Tennessee has new offices, which contains a welcome desk open for folks interested in learning more about The Sanctuary. Their long range plans includes an Education Gallery (next door to the new offices) with exhibits.
In 2009, Tennessee Governor Phil Bredesen and TDOT Commissioner Gerald Nicely presented the City of Hohenwald funding in the amount of $651,317 to assist with construction of the Hohenwald Welcome Center. It will be located in the city's downtown district on Main Street next door to The Elephant Sanctuary's Center. When complete, the center will provide a centralized information center that will be available to people traveling through or visiting Hohenwald and Lewis County. Gov. Bredesen stated that "Welcome Centers are an important part of promoting tourism in communities across Tennessee."
Come see our progress, shop and dine with us in the historic district of Hohenwald!
