Metal Ford area Natchez Trace Parkway

Two sites near the Natchez Trace Parkway played a role in Andrew Jackson's famous Battle of New Orleans following the Battle of 1812.

Jackson stayed at the McLish Indian reservation near Metal Ford (now located at mile post 382) on his return from New Orleans and he discharged his troops one mile north of the current Meriwether Lewis Monument.  Many of those troops settled in what would become Lewis County.  The exact locations are uncertain; however, the Park Service may be encouraged to add markers, as the sites related to the history of the Natchez Trace Parkway.
